Tugg Speedman

Ben Stiller takes his chances with his new movie Tugg Speedman. Distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp., a pampered action superstar on the wane and very neurotic. This movie gets a little bit crazy because not only is he the actor of the film but the director, writer and producer as well. The most enjoyable thing of them all for stiller, is the directing part which he always wanted to do.

One of the most intriguing about this movie is how Stiller convinced Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey to agree to be part of this project. The thought of two most handsome guys in Hollywood is willing to go out there and take some chances and do some comedy and see audiences laugh and embrace it, is worth to watch.

The Eagle Eye: Strong “what if” Factor

The Eagle Eye presents a strong “what if” factor in the minds of the viewer. The film has a high-tech central plot. Spielberg has done it again. The film instills paranoia. Wasn’t that suspenseful unlike, The Jaws but you’d still feel anxious of using your laptops, cellphones and GPS gadgets. The mysterious voice of the caller somewhat sounds like a Big Brother episode. Labeouf and Monaghan makes for a good combination. A romantic tension is evident although not implied. In totality, the movie packs a non-stop action thriller that is tremendously overwhelming. It boasts of great, mind blowing special effects.

MIRRORS Review

The idea of mirrors becoming a mode of terror in the story is tangential to some supernatural ideas where such are utilized as portals of the otherworldly into the mundane realm. Even in Filipino horror tales , ghosts coming out of mirrors is quite not uncommon.

Surely, many people have experienced this sudden intense fright at the sight of himself at the mirror. Thinking about scary possibilities is well horror enough to make some people think this reflective object a thing of the dark and evil- which I believe will make (or had already made) this movie a sure hit this coming Halloween season.

So if you’re looking for a real frightening flick to go to with your friends or loved ones, better try this one. As long as you have no plan of scaring yourself up to no-sleep, or having to go to the bathroom with somebody because you think the mirror there is going to get you. Mirrors is out now in cinemas so better catch it while it’s there.

How to be a Movie Critic

19.jpg

&t;img src=’http://latest-movie-reviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/2.JPG’ alt=’2.JPG’ align=”left” height=90 width=180/>In writing a movie review, it is of the utmost importance to always have your audience in mind. Knowing your audience helps to define your writing guidelines and allows you to connect with your target audience. The main thing is that the average person will understand what the movie is all about and if they will have a good time and get their moneys worth. Your job as a movie reviewer is to provide a sneak preview on what to expect if they do decide to see the film.

Another important point to keep in mind is that you are writing about a particular film and not about the entire catalog of the film maker so try to stick to the film in general. Small reference to previous works of the film maker can be tolerated though. Some critics have resorted also to the use of rating systems which the audience can relate far better than reading through an entire column.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is a 3-part series of stories of which have been recreated on the large screen as action/fantasy epic films.

The first film was made in 2001, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The second one was made the following year, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and was followed immediately by the third and final sequel, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

The three-book series tells the story of young Hobbit Frodo Baggins as he goes on a mystical journey into a world of monsters, wizards, magic and friendship.

All three films had one man as its mastermind. Peter Jackson, writer, producer and director. Along with his co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, Jackson was able to create one of the biggest movie projects ever in the entertainment industry. The movie has an overall budget of roughly $280 million for a period of 8 years in the making.

With the trilogy garnering 17 academy awards and a long list of nominations, Jackson is proud to say that his movie has earned the titles of being the 14th, 7th and 2nd respectively, most successful movies of all time.

Doomsday: A Horrid Mix of Everything

Photobucket

I was thrilled to watch Doomsday as I had high expectations based from their trailer. But as they say, looks can be deceiving.

To be fair, the opening was impressive with the crowd panicking and one can really feel the end of the world scenario. But the good part ended there. After the opening credits rolled, one was transported into a world of sci-fi world of violence. Once the heroine went back to the quarantined Glasgow to get a cure for the Reaper virus, things got worse. Instead of zombies, the people there became punk tattooed rebels who are cannibals. I thought I was watching Mad Max for a second because of the motorcycle racing scenes.

When the remaining team finally escaped from the city into a rural area, I thought I was watching the Lord of the Rings as the people changed from punk rebels to medieval knights and maidens. There was even a castle and a coliseum scene that can be straight out from Gladiator. But the puzzling thing is that when they were trying to escape, there were boxes of cellphones and a fully working Bently in a cave complete with gas!

All in all, I suggest not to waste money on this crappy film. You will just be left with dollars short and a confused mind.

A Peek at Nim’s Island

Photobucket

Another good family movie is Nim’s Island. It is about the story of Nim and her father, a research scientist, who lives in a remote island. Nim is a nature lover and enjoys reading the tales of an adventurer named Alex Rover. Its author is Alexandra Rover, an agoraphobic who hasn’t left her apartment in a very long time. When Nim’s father gets lost in the sea, Nim sought out the help of Alexandra Rover and this is where their adventure began.

Since it is a family movie, the movie is a bit predictable. There are also plot elements which go nowhere like the huge talk about Nim’s mother in the beginning of the movie. Nevertheless, it still is great as it has the prefect recipe of comedy, suspense, drama and even a touch of romance. The scenery is lovely and the special effects are spectacular. With a big name cast like Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler, good acting is expected from this movie. Child actress Abigail Breslin as Nim also shined in this movie.

P.S. I Love You

Photobucket

Love doesn’t end in the death of a loved one, that is the premise of the novel turned movie, P.S. I Love You. It tells the story of Holly Kennedy who became a widow when her husband, Gerry, died of an illness. Depressed by Gerry’s death, she locked herself in her apartment until one day, on her 30th birthday, she receives a cake along with a tape recording from Gerry telling her to go out and celebrate herself. After that, Holly received more letters from Gerry helping her to ease the pain and to move on with her life.

This is a very touching movie and I have to admit, tears were shed as I watched this. Fortunately, it was not all drama as there were also comedy scenes like the Karaoke scene of Holly which Hilary Swank played perfectly. Gerald Butler was also great as Gerry and Lisa Kudrow still has the comedic touch as Holly’s friend, Denise. All in all, this was a great movie worth watching!

Unlike its predecessor, girl power takes center stage as the upcoming street fighter movie, Street Fighter: the Legend of Chun-Li, focuses on the adventures of Chun-Li and her quest for justice. Assigned to play the beautiful heroine is the half-Dutch, half Chinese actress Kristin Kreuk of Smallville fame. Also in the cast is Taboo of the popular singing group, the Black Eyed Peas.

As of the moment, the cast and crew just began filming in Thailand. This Capcom game turned live action movie is set to premiere around February 2009.
