The Express is simply put, inspiring and involving as what good sports movies should be. The film is set at the time when racial discrimination is rampant, and being black means simply that you are not welcomed. Even in sports, being black did not come easy. The movie well described familiar situations during that time when racism was a common dealings. The film struck deep into the hearts of its audience because it didnt just highlight Davis’ life, it also dwelt on the relationship of Davis with Ben Schwartzwalder, his coach. They complimented each other that it came to a point that Davis played a major part in the development of his coaches attitude and outlook in life. The story also presented his family as key factor in Davis’ confidence and self esteem.
