Meet the Browns

null A good performance by Angela Bassett is the thing to watch out for in this movie. It is a story of a single mother (portrayed by Bassett) with three children who are struggling with poverty in Chicago.

This comedy-drama focuses on the lure of illegal drugs to young people and it condemns black men who abandon their children. The movie runs with scenes of hostile encounters with the mother’s ex, her pleas for financial help, and the inexplicable fending off of the romantic advances of a basketball coach (played by Rick Fox). There are also moving moments that can compensate for the whole film.
